Meet devon

devon hase, MA

devon first encountered meditation in 2000, as a college sophomore longing for a deeper way to meet life. Since then, She has spent over six cumulative years in meditation retreat in both the Insight and Vajrayana traditions, studying closely with teachers such as Joseph Goldstein, Tara Brach, Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche, and others.

Most recently, devon and her partner fulfilled a long-held dream by completing a three-year meditation retreat.

devon co-guides Refuge of Belonging, an online Dharma community where meditation meets daily life. Whether you’re just beginning or decades into practice, Refuge of Belonging creates space for anyone curious about inner transformation—offering weekly talks, monthly daylongs, in-depth courses, and personal mentoring that help you stay awake to your life as it actually is.

Before teaching Dharma full-time, devon was a classroom teacher for ten years, focusing on creative writing and cultural studies. devon is a graduate of Spirit Rock’s Community Dharma Leaders program and the Insight Meditation Society’s teacher training program, and now serves as co-coordinating teacher for Spirit Rock’s CDL program.

In addition to her work with Refuge of Belonging, devon teaches on retreat teams at Insight Meditation Society, Spirit Rock, and other centers internationally.

devon and her partner, nico, co-authored How Not to Be a Hot Mess: A Buddhist Survival Guide for Modern Life, and their new book, This Messy Gorgeous Love: A Buddhist Guide to Lasting Partnership, comes out April 14th, 2026. devon is passionate about depth practice—on retreat and in daily life—and deeply grateful to her lineage teachers who have modeled these forms so beautifully.

These days, devon is especially interested in how we can support the living Buddhist traditions in ways that feel accessible, inclusive, and deeply relevant to our complex times.

If you’re curious about a community that takes both inner work and real life seriously, come check out Refuge of Belonging.
